Foley Mfg. has supplied models for 10 different low speed wind tunnels. These include facilities at Langley Research Center, Wright Labs, two foreign sites and four different universities. We have developed great expertise in producing lightweight, economical models for rotary balance, force & moment and pressure testing.

Using a variety of materials including composites, balsa, plywood and aluminum, our skilled model makers thrive on the challenge of producing state of the art models. We have experience in both the General Aviation and Military sectors and have produced a range of products from a 1/10 scale pressure tapped control surface, up to a full scale F-15 radome for forebody flow modification tests.

Positionable control surfaces, removable parts for component testing and multiple balance mount options are normal features on most of our models. We also take great care in proper shape and positioning of external stores if required.

Below is a partial listing of previous projects and customers. F-16 Built several models for different test programs including inlet modification (MCID), conformal tanks, avionics spine fairing, forebody flow modification and blowing tests. F-15 Participated in project “Keep Eagle”, building a 1/10 scale pressure model (approx. 700 pressure taps) for evaluation of the low speed, high alpha, stall and spin analysis of the F-15E. This model was also used for force and moment testing with different store loads. Also produced a full scale forebody using non-airworthy radome and adding sufficient length aft for a balance mount. This model was used for forebody flow modification tests in the full scale (30X60) tunnel at Langley. The radome contained approx. 300 pressure taps. FA-18 C/D Several models built including a pressure version with approx. 700 taps.
